CHALLENGES:
A. Funding gaps in some of the project components:
- Inadequate IEC / promotional materials compared to the size of the markets and number of vendors involved.
- Provision for Adult literacy to enable vendors who can’t read, learn and be able to access written information on HIV/AIDS.
- Short supply of condoms for educational purposes and availability to those who are asking for them.
- Treatment literacy for clients on ARVs, their caregivers and the general market community. There is a lot of misinformation about ART which needs to be corrected on an ongoing basis.
- Addressing OVCs in market communities.
- Incorporating Malaria and TB education, prevention, treatment and care into the programme.
- A system to follow up HIV+ clients who are referred to AHF-Uganda Cares clinics (and some already started on ARV’s) but get lost to follow up.
- Formation of psychosocial support groups such as post test support groups, a system to follow up clients under treatment and other strategies to address stigma and discrimination.
- Limited space for the clinics
B. Resources and partnerships to scale up and replicate MAVAP to other markets in Kampala and the rest of the country. |
